Mat Wilkinson: Publisher & Editor, Design & Typography.
In 2012, Mat left Australia to begin a master’s degree in English literature at the University of Freiburg, and is now working on his MA thesis, Anxious Masculinity in Early Modern Drama. He teaches English as a foreign language at Freiburg’s German and American cultural exchange centre, the Carl-Schurz-Haus, as well as academic writing at University College Freiburg. In an earlier life, he was a city planner in various councils and companies in Newcastle, Sydney, and Melbourne (Australia), and was once a decent footballer. |
Sophie Mathieu: Managing Editor
Sophie is the managing editor of The Freiburg Review. During her Bachelor's, she studied English and German Literature, Philosophy and Anthropology in different countries and is now completing her Master's degree in Cultural Studies. After various public readings in bookstores in her younger years, participating in creative writing courses, and being a fictionalized character in her grandfather's children's book, she is excited about learning new things whilst working for the journal. Orla Donnelly: Senior editor, Communications Orla was a staff writer for the Trinity News in Ireland before meandering to South Korea, detouring in Australia, and landing in Germany to become Senior Editor and Communications guru at The Freiburg Review. She has worked as an English language teacher, lifeguard, seminarist, camp counselor, sommelier, translator, and librarian: She still does some of these things while completing a Masters in English Literature and Literary Theory, where her research focuses on transnational identity in literature. She is still coming to terms with the abrupt termination of Parks and Recreation. |
Sarah Link: Senior Editor, Print Production Manager, Public Relations.
Senior editor and print production manager Sarah Link is studying for a master's degree in English Literature and Literary Theory at the University of Freiburg. She has already gathered experience in coordinating group projects as a member of the Trent varsity fencing team during her time at Trent University in Peterborough, and as sound engineer for the independent film /Every Reason for Happiness/. She is currently working on her MA thesis on heroes in popular culture. |
Nikolina Hatton: Senior Editor, Social Media
After studying English literature in university, Nikolina did a stint as an English teacher/resident American in municipal schools in Tokushima, Japan, and discovered that she couldn't resist the draw of living internationally. So she packed up and moved to Freiburg to complete her MA. Jumping at the chance to read books for pay, she's now doing research on her PhD dissertation on consumption in Victorian novels. |
Amit Siovitz: Senior editor, Webmaster
Finishing his Bachelor's degree in English and American studies, Amit Siovitz decided to take his Jack of All Trades mentality into The Freiburg Review to help see this project come to fruition. Having some experience in computers and organization, he began running the magazine's internet presence in addition to his responsibilities as senior editor. |
Judith Eckenhoff: Reader, Marketing Distribution
After studying English and media communication at the University of Bonn, Judith ended up moving to Freiburg in 2012 for a MA degree in British and North American Cultural Studies. Meanwhile, she has been tutoring students in literary studies and is now working as a TA for culture and history. Through an earlier job at a publishing company for travel magazines, she gained some experience in the business of the printed word, particularly reader service and marketing. |
Laura Leisinger: Website design, Event Management.
Laura studied Classical Languages and Theological Philosophy at Crossroads College in Rochester, Minnesota. After a four month "finding herself" backpacking trip through Europe, she moved to San Diego, California. There she did Event Management and Public Relations with So Say We All, a multimedia art non-profit, and she was the managing editor of a local art and culture blog. She left her heart in Germany and returned three years ago. She works in Freiburg as an ESL teacher. |
